Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the biggest challenges I face in my classroom is student involvement. A class set of these dry erase boards will allow all of my students to be active in the learning environment. This is a huge part of my curriculum. These boards will help my students be more involved in their learning.

My school has a high poverty rate.

All of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch. We have a 50% Hispanic, 30% African American and 20% Caucasian population. Despite all of this, my students come to school everyday excited to learn about the material for the day. My students overcome a lot just by showing up to school everyday. The challenges that they face everyday in their lives are hard. At our school, we try to do everything we can to help them overcome these challenges to be successful in their lives and give them the tools they need to be successful.

My Project

My students need a class set of student dry erase boards so that we can use them for collaboration in our classroom. At the present moment, we have to take turns answering questions on the board, which allows some students to become off task. With these white boards, my students will be able to interact at the same time. This will help enhance the quality of their education and allow me, as a teacher, to see which students need more help with that particular problem. These boards will be an essential part of our math time routine. They will be able to work out problems, respond to multiple choice questions and show their understanding in a written form. We will also be able to use these boards for other subjects, such as science, when we are learning processes. Keeping students involved and engaged and helping them become confident in their answers and processing is a huge part of my teaching plan. If they are all doing the problems at the same time, none of them are feeling left out, or looked at, to see if they are not answering the questions.

I believe this project will help improve my students' lives because it will allow their voices to be heard.

Even if it is in just math, or just science, each child's answer will be noticed. At home, some of my students aren't listened to and are just ignored. This will help them learn to express themselves in a place where they will be heard. It will help them be successful in a safe place so that they can continue to be a success throughout their lives.
