Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In just a few days I will be gaining a new a classroom full of bright, energetic 2nd graders. Within the past 2 years we have spent time rebuilding our homes, our lives, our school, and most importantly a sense of security and well being in our students after the devastating Hurricane that claimed our community. This past week we have once again spent long hours creating and finishing up our classrooms so that our students feel secure and settled when they enter those doors next week

Our classrooms need to be reflections of the ones that inhabit them; strong, warm, comforting, and stable environments in which our students grow and thrive..

We have had to start from scratch in gaining new furniture and supplies to replenish our classrooms for both teachers and students as we rebuilt our school. We are wanting to be able to provide a normalcy for our students who have been through so much change in their young lives.

My Project

A Writing Station in our 2nd grade classroom will encourage my students to practice their developing writing and language skills. This space will be a creative nook where they can use a multitude of fun materials to create short stories, letters, and notes for their friends and family.

These children all have such a story to tell following their life changing experiences of the last 2 years.

A writing space will allow them to share their stories, in their own words, as a way of rebuilding and healing as many continue to rebuild homes and grow into the wisest, most compassionate children I have ever known!
