My Students

My class comes from an area that is very diverse. We are close to downtown and a major hospital practically sits in our parking lot. On one end of the street there are doctors living nearby in the more historic areas and surrounded by medical buildings. But on the other side of the street we have the not-so-historic, run-down side. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of the students receiving free lunch. Forget reduced-price lunch. Here, all kids are guaranteed a warm breakfast and lunch free of charge.

This year our school has the highest number of students enrolled from the Red Cross Homeless Shelter than we've ever seen.

Many other students are bused to us from the Children's Home, for orphans and domestic abuse victims and their children, which is right around the next corner.

Another thing that sets us apart, is that the district HAG program is held at our school. Polar opposites right!?! The HAG program brings an extreme shift to the economic diversity of our students. The two sides couldn't be more farther apart than the north and south pole.

Our differences make us stronger!

My Project

Last year our 5th-grade students were sent home during Covid with dry-erase boards to help them complete and practice their work at home. However necessary, many of them didn't come back to us when the students graduated. We are missing so many and the ones that do remain are not in good shape. Many are scratched and can not be written on in many areas because the surface is missing or cracked. One of our new teachers was left with zero boards at all to start the year.

Dry-erase boards are interactive, fun, engaging, AND cut down on paper waste.

These boards will freshen our supplies and fill our needs for years to come. With your help, our students will be able to Write, Write, Write Away!

We have the markers, we have the wipes.....we just need the boards!
