My Students

In my main position here at school, I work with students that did not score proficient on the state literacy assessment at the start of each year. This year I have almost 40% of our schools K-3 grade students or 73 students. These are the students that really need help, some coming in 2-grade levels behind in reading and spelling. We work in groups of up to 19 students on strategic skills-based lessons in an achievement-based environment that rewards progress. It is very fulfilling to see how much growth accomplish and I especially love "graduating" them out of my class when they have caught up to the literacy levels of their peers.

In addition to working with students in reading and spelling, I also run our school's STEM Lab after lunch.

It is my favorite part of the day! Classes get to come in and learn about everything from coding and robotics to magnetism and weather. It's loud, it's lively, and hopefully, it's memorable!

My Project

In the first half of my day, almost 70 students in groups of up to 19 come in for reading and spelling intervention in five 30 minute sessions. We need to have every minute count for them, which is why they need magnetic whiteboards, markers, supplies caddies, and magnetic supplies!

These whiteboards will not only allow students to maximize their practice time but save the school on tons of paper copies!

These boards, letter magnets, and markers will be used up to 4 days a week to practice writing letters, words, and sentences, and are essential to our classroom.

Large groups mean supplies are everywhere, so they'll need storage caddies for their markers, erasers, pencils, and other supplies. We're asking for 8 caddies, one for each table, so students can focus on their work instead of tracking down materials.

The last items they need are magnetic labels and hooks. Their teacher (me) doesn't have time to staple things on a bulletin board. Do you know how long it takes to pull those out after every project display? So this summer I turned my corkboards into steel sheets to spend less time with staples and more time creating fun lessons! These labels and hooks will help hang and identify their work quickly without damaging them. Isn't that awesome?
