This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from the inner city and the majority live far below the poverty line. Our population can be transient with students transferring several times in one academic year. Over 75% of my students are from single parent households and approximately one quarter of my students are English Language Learners.

My students are motivated scholars who are documenting their academic and social reality as we navigate our way through remote learning.

They are amazing, persistent, talented authors who lack basic supplies. Your donation will help them succeed in documenting this novel experience through their eyes and hearts. Many of my students rely on subpar technology such as hotspots for their daily computer usage. They become easily frustrated when constantly lagging, unable to type, submit or share work, or kicked off the network. Providing the opportunity and choice for students to write with pencil and paper offers more opportunity for success.

My Project

My students are learning that we write to rewrite! We don't think of writing as a chore where we have to write a rough draft, then edit, then write a final copy.

We are learning to craft our own story - we are revising our ideas daily and growing in the process - we are fearless in our new challenge of remote learning - we are documenting a journey no one has taken before!

We are seeking simple supplies - a notebook and a few pencils to use at home during remote learning.
