When choosing a book, the student and I have a variety to choose from due to the generous means from this project. Whether a student is feeling anxious (middle school) or working side by side with a preschooler on her feelings of being 'mad' or 'angry' having a variety of resources is very crucial. With big feelings, comes changes that can cause a domino effect.\r\nMany of my 3-5th graders who are hard of hearing, really related to the Disney movie, \"Red,\" about a 13-year-old girl who transforms into a giant red panda when she gets overly excited due to changes in adolescence. Even my older students, when they have to choose between using a pair of these headphones vs. the air pod look, they always choose the plump and comfortable padded headphones. Not only do they provide control over their environmental noises in the classroom, but they can also Bluetooth and participate in their IEP meetings if they are over zoom. Depending on the degree of hearing loss, students will benefit from different techniques and strategies to learn the rote language as well as the pattern perception.\r\nThese materials have come in extra handy in my PreK - 1st classrooms especially for my younger students who did not have access or practice of nursery rhymes. When I presented the puppets and nursery rhyme books that make sound, there was an alertness. Using the Where's Squeaky Mouse game, we were able to practice localization of sound by hiding a squeaking mouse in a classroom. My students with a unilateral hearing loss, had to practice using their localizing skills to find the hidden toy. It gave me a lot of insight that listening and localizing with one ear is much more difficult and takes more practice. Music requires students to focus on sounds and melodies, which can improve their auditory perception and listening skills. \r\nMusic can also help students learn to discriminate between different sounds and pitches, which is important for language development. Weekly, we continue to work on learning new nursery rhymes as our pattern perception and language grow.","fullyFundedDate":1735658687952,"projectUrl":"project/music-matters-for-hard-of-hearing-childr/8906210/","projectTitle":"Music Matters for Hard of Hearing Children","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. E (for Excellent)","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7860713_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y799&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1621013885189","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7860713"},{"teacherId":7860713,"projectId":8744929,"letterContent":"As an itinerant teacher, traveling between 15 schools with a role that includes troubleshooting equipment as well as working in a classroom and outside a classroom, most of my prep time is spent on responsibility factors; there are just not enough time in my schedule to plan to the best of my ability. \r\n\r\nWith the gift cards to TeachersPayTeachers, I can sigh a bit of relief using supplemental materials that are already made.
