Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students look forward to school and are happiest when they are learning and moving while being challenged to do their very best. My students feel happy and loved in my classroom. I believe in them, and I care for their education and well being. They are encouraged to put their best foot forward every day no matter what is happening at home.

I teach 2nd grade at a Title I school where the majority of our students live in poverty, and go home to a non English-speaking home with little to no educational support.

Despite the many hurdles my students face at home, they arrive ready and eager to learn!

My Project

Help me give my students hands-on resources that will get students excited about writing.

I want to give my students tools to improve their writing while providing fun hands-on activities that will spark their imaginations and get them writing!

I've selected resources that students will be able to use independently during our centers block. Using the Sequence and Write Story Tiles, students will be able to practice their writing skills while using their imaginations to create their own stories. The non-fiction tiles will help students visualize and write the steps in procedural and explanatory writing. The ready to write prompt box will help my students explore different topics and expand their knowledge base while improving their writing skills. I've also selected a writing development center to help all my students improve their writing skills.

These resources will also be used during our writing block. The writing folders will help my students track their progress as they complete the writing process. Additionally, the revising and editing guides will help my students strengthen their sentences and expand their vocabulary. I've also included posters to help native speakers, and English Language Learners, understand sentence structure and how to improve their sentences.

With these resources and your help, my students can increase their writing skills and their love of writing!
