My Students

The students of my school are special in many ways, including the demographic make-up of the school as well as the strong moral character traits that make them unique.

Our high school is located in a blue-collar, military community outside of Omaha, Nebraska.

Bellevue is home to a large US Air Force base and many of my students come from military families. Many of my students' families are also hard-working blue collar workers.

Finally, the strong moral character of my students also stands out. The very first week in my classroom, after reading a short story that brought up a lot of personal issues for students, a young man in the class shared a heart-wrenching story of family trauma. Rather than talking about him behind his back, or judging him, the other students offered him support. It was beautiful.

My Project

Writing is an amazing way for students to both learn and also express themselves. In English 10, there are so many different opportunities to reflect upon important issues in the world and in students lives.

Students who write regularly become better students and better people.

Unfortunately, it is not guaranteed that all of my students will be able to bring a composition notebook to school. This is really a basic supply that will make them successful. I often become the person who purchases all of them. This is an amazing way to help support the future through a very basic supply.
