I have the most incredible group of students this year. They are a unique group that ranges from the overly exuberant to the shy and sweet soul. But one quality that they all radiate is kindness. The way they treat their classmates, peers and adults is something extraordinary. I have never been more proud to be a teacher to a group of students.
This group of Kindergarteners are a shining light during a time when many things in our world are not looking so bright.
I want to do anything I can to help make their Kindergarten experience one to remember and the start of a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
One area I have always struggled with is writing. It is something that I have seen others have a passion for and have craved to love writing in the same way. Because I was never a strong writer, I have always found it difficult to instill the love of writing in my students.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see Deedee Wills present a short session about Kindergarten writing.
It was the first time I truly saw the possibilities that could come from being a skilled writing teacher. I finally felt empowered to become the writer that I know I had the potential to be and teach my Kindergarten students to be so as well.
I have spent the last few years reading books, studying blogs and watching other teachers in an attempt to grow as a writer. The opportunity to attend this full day conference with someone who I truly admire as both a colleague and writer is something that would benefit myself and my students.
By attending this writing conference, I will be developing my writing skills and become a better teacher in the area of literacy. Literacy plays such a huge part in our Kindergarten day and this conference gives me the chance to better my understanding of developmentally appropriate writing and to help my students.
