Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I want to grow up and be a teacher like you Ms. Ryan, so make sure you leave me some stuff for the kids to use." One of our students would like to become a teacher when she grows up and recognizes early on that she will need to find adequate resources to support her students.
Our students are funny, curious, and enthusiastic learners.
They aspire to be amazing contributors to society, with many stories to tell. Although I believe in their abilities, there are external factors that greatly interfere with their goals. They live in an urban, impoverished area where over 60 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite these circumstances, I hope to provide social and academic support to guide them along the way. Specifically, I would like to focus on their literacy skills, given that many of my students are English language learners.
My Project
The magnetic letters will aid them most directly with literacy since there are countless activities that are fun and academically rich for them to participate in. From letter recognition to sight word building, these letters are a fun alternative to pencil and paper. The chair pockets will help them keep their supplies organized and easily accessible. These pockets will hold their writing journals, books, and worksheets for the early finishers. We use scissors frequently for our literacy block. We cut words from magazines that we have learned, use them to match letters, and even build sentences. The scissors that we have are quite old and hurt their hands to use.
Your donations are greatly appreciated as it is a symbol of commitment to all of our students, investing in their futures and how they will affect our society.
Literacy is fundamental and at such a young age, they need engaging activities and organization since it will dictate how they perceive future schooling experiences. Please consider donating to this project, they will be truly appreciated.
