Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse, caring, eager to support one another, and extremely hard-working. They are dual language learners that are learning in Spanish and English.

We have a vast diversity in learning abilities.

This ranges from special education students developing beginning literacy skills in their home language to some emerging bilingual students who are navigating writing in Spanish and English. What I love about my students is that they all support each other in their learning.

My Project

Many teachers and parents know that writing is a skill that requires lots of practice, love, and encouragement to develop. Our classroom uses the writers' workshop method, which requires students to go through the writing process in the development of their writing. The heart of the workshop model is conferring with students individually, having them share what they have written in their writer's notebooks and offering feedback to help them develop their talent as writers.

The Rocketbook notebooks are a wonderful, reusable tool that will allow students to write as if they were composing in a traditional spiral notebook, but with the benefit of sharing their drafts with me via Google Drive for feedback.

In this way, I will still be able to offer students real-time feedback to help push them forward in the writing process (e.g. from a first draft to a revision). In these uncertain times, I think it is important to retain as much of the structure and routine of our instructional time as possible, even if it is in a remote environment.

These devices would be used by students at home but can transition easily to the in-person classroom setting when we are able to return. Though the primary intended purpose is for writing, this will also be used for responding to reading through writing, as well.
