This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a rural area of Fresno County in California. They are generally from a lower socioeconomic background and have not had the opportunity to have the experiences that others have had. Many of them are English language learners as well. It can be difficult to provide resources and other authentic experiences that can provide them with more knowledge and background information.
Many of my students have limited experiences outside of the home or classroom.
We try to provide as much as we can here at school, so our students can have the same type of advantages and experiences as their counterparts in more economically advantaged areas.
My Project
Our third graders read Charlotte's Web every year for our novel study. However, this year will look very different for many of our students as they will be learning from home. Our district is not allowing our library books to be checked out to students this year, so we do not have access to copies of the books for our students.
My students need their own copies of Charlotte's Web to read at home.
Having their own copy of the novel will allow them to fully explore and experience the story as we go through it as a class. They can read the book off-line and will not have to rely on internet access or technology. I will also use the Teachers Pay Teachers materials to purchase new curriculum for Charlotte's Web that my students will be able to access digitally.
