We started with reading Charlotte's Web, which they loved. I chose to share Little House on the Prairie with them because it was a book that I had loved as a child. I was surprised at how much they loved the story! That is what inspired me to request a classroom set of the novel, along with Trumpet of the Swan because they had loved Charlotte's Web so much. \r\n\r\nThe students received their novels in time for us to finish Little House together. They were so excited to take turns reading the last few chapters out loud and share their thoughts of the Ingalls' next adventures. Many of them plan on checking out the rest of the series from the library this summer. With our supplies, we have been able to do so many things! \r\n\r\nWe have been using our fine tip markers to draw our monthly pictures, write letters, and use them for fun writing! We have been using our gluesticks for so many crafts! They go fast so it was nice to have bulk gluesticks for our winter and spring crafts such as tear art, valentines, and more! My kiddos love the dab markers! We used them for our 100th day of school and created a gumball art project, decorated for our weather unit by dabbing a rainbow, and have used them just for fun! \r\n\r\nThe students are so excited to use special items, other than pencil and crayons, to do crafts and writing! Your donations brought fun and excitement into our daily schedule. We will continue to use these supplies throught the spring, animal, and summer units up ahead! We plan on using them till theere is none left. The students absolutely adore what the lights have done to change the atmosphere of our classroom! They have said that our classroom feels more \"cozy\" and \"warm\" compared to how it was before the addition of the lights. They constantly asked for the big, harsh fluorescent lights to be shut off to work with just the atmospheric lights because they felt like could concentrate more on their work. They claimed it was \"much more fun\" to do their work with the softer lights. \r\n\r\nThey were completely amazed when they first saw the lights installed. At first, they thought it was for the upcoming holiday season and got very excited, but became even more excited when they learned it was a generous donation to help them better perform in their academics. They were touched by the kind gesture and spent the majority of the next few days touching the lights and wanting to sit right next to the floor lamps during class time. The lights have quickly become a huge part of our classroom culture! One of our classroom jobs is to be in charge of turning on and off the lights every day. The students are also quick to tell any and all substitutes they need to have the lights on so they can learn better. \r\n\r\nAgain, Thank you so very much for your kind generosity.
