This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a first grade SEI classroom in East Boston. All of my students are English Language Learners with an ELD level 1-3. My classroom consists of twenty curious students who love to come to school to learn and spend time with their friends.

Their favorite part of the week is working together in pairs using whiteboards and other manipulatives to solve math problems.

My students love to brainstorm with a partner to figure out challenging math problems. And they also enjoy sharing their solution strategies with the entire class.

My Project

I am hoping to obtain some materials that my students can use with the learning model they have chosen for this year. Whiteboards are used daily in my classroom. They can also be used at home while learning remotely. They are convenient and bring flexibility to learning. Students use the whiteboards for guided math practice and to record strategies. These magnetic boards allow me to see my students' work at an instant, whether they are writing their solutions or using magnetic numbers to show me their thinking. Using whiteboards and manipulatives engage students in hands-on learning activities. Manipulatives also help children with their mathematical thinking skills and increase motivation while they learn.
