Magnetic letters and white boards will help my students work toward becoming fluent readers and writers in English. Because of the lack of materials, my students are forced to share materials, and as a result, spend less time on task. During our literacy block, students work at learning stations with a partner or individually, which allows me time to focus on small groups to meet specific learning targets. My students will use the magnetic letters and white boards to build high frequency words. They can also play word-building games with a partner. For example, one student could build a high frequency word with a missing letter, and the other student could identify the letter. In order for my students to be successful English Language learners, they need to have a strong foundation in phonics skills which requires a lot of practice. They also need to have automaticity with sight words so they can reach their benchmarks in reading. This can only be achieved when students have adequate materials to support them in reaching their goals.
