Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My English Language Learners are challenged but eager to learn English by practicing it through speech, spelling, and handwriting. The Boogie Boards will be a great writing tool for them to practice writing the alphabet and their weekly spelling words, as well as writing sentences in first grade.

We will use the Boogie Boards both in small and in whole group.

In whole group, the students will practice their weekly spelling words where they will work with a partner to spell, say, and give a sentence for each spelling word. First grade students are required to learn a long list of high frequency words, which involves reading, writing, and using the word in a sentence.

The handwriting workbooks will be used in the writing center for my students to practice their alphabet writing skills since many first grade students enter first grade struggling to write letters and even writing their name, so these handwriting workbooks will be a beneficial writing tool for them. Most of my students can't afford to buy markers so the markers will give them the extra creative opportunity to improve their fine motor skills while coloring alphabetic images, tracing letters on paper, writing their spelling words with rainbow colors, and creating sketches for their sentences so they can learn their spelling words more easily and creatively.

My students are special to me because I enjoy seeing their quarterly and yearly academic growth. I love how my English Language Learners are eager to learn English through verbal repetition, using sentence stems, writing on Boogie Boards, and partner sharing. They smile while using the Boogie Boards because they don't have to use an eraser but only push the button to make everything disappear quickly. They are so convenient and enjoyable to use for spelling practice and writing sentences.
