Write from the Start: Building Essential Early Writing Skills

Help me give my students these engaging lessons by bringing Heggerty’s research-backed writing program into our classrooms with lessons that provide systematic instruction that explicitly teach grammar in writing through models, graphic organizers, hands-on activities, checklists, and rubrics.

My Project

Imagine a classroom where every child believes their words matter. Where young learners beam with pride as they write their first stories, letters, or poems. A place where writing is not just an assignment—but a joy.

The Bridge to Writing Heggerty Program will enable our students to become confident and capable writers by providing them with foundational writing skills as they grow to be independent writers.

Through proven strategies and engaging lessons, children with diverse learning styles will develop essential writing skills from the very start. These skills won’t just prepare them for school, but will empower them for life.

The Bridge to Writing Program offers interactive lessons that teach grammar and writing seamlessly with models, graphic organizers, activities, checklists, and rubrics.

Students will actively participate through hands-on resources that provide students with multimodal applications and new ways to explore the building blocks for writing. This includes Anchor Charts and visuals focusing on Sentence Types, Writing Genres, Parts of Speech, the Writing Process, and will offer opportunities for whole group and small group learning.

Students will use whiteboards, writing notebooks, and shared group activities to put their sound knowledge into writing practice. There is also a digital component that will be used by students.
