My students are second graders with hearts full of gold. They are all residents of Camden, NJ, a city that is often overlooked and labeled as dangerous. These children are excited to come to school everyday despite the adversities they face living in the city. It is difficult and costly to create a rich and engaging classroom at our school. My students would love to engage in more STEM activities, but we are often short on supplies.
Learning independence and accountability is an important part of second grade.
My students can accomplish this goal by having access to supplies of their own, which they will be responsible for through out the school year. I believe my students will gain confidence and enthusiasm when they have new and plentiful supplies and materials to use in our classroom.
My students love working with dry erase boards and markers. Right now they are sharing these supplies. It would be beneficial for them to have enough for each individual students so that they make work independently. Independence is an important step in second grade. This will also save on paper and time. No more pencil and paper to slow down the learning process.
Students will be able to show their level of mastery and communicate their thoughts in quick interactive write and wipe lessons.
Having their own boards and markers will also teach them responsibility and accountability. We can't wait to wipe and write!
