This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We start our day by singing our "Buenos dias" song. Then children get their write and wipe boards that are all scratched and chipped and difficult to erase. As they wait for everyone to settle down they write their names, any names they know, any words they know. They feel very proud to do this.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
My school is a Dual Immersion School. The children are learning Spanish. The school model is 90/10 meaning that instruction is in Spanish for 90% of the day and 10% in English. As the students move through the grade levels the Spanish instruction goes down by 10% and English instruction goes up by 10% Until it reaches 5th grade where instruction is 50% English and 50% Spanish. Some students are maintaining their Spanish language and some are learning it as a second or third language.
My Project
Students will use the boards for different purposes. Writing, drawing and math. They will learn proper letter and number formation. The boards that I currently have are over 15 years old. They one sided and are scratched and chipped and they are also difficult to erase.
Students will be exited to use clean and functional boards.
This will help them be more interested in the instruction taking place. Students will feel that their work is neat. This will make them feel proud of themselves.
