Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third grade is comprised of 24 extraordinary students who are eager to learn and love to explore new ideas from different disciplines. Most of them are from Hispanic and African American descent and are classified as low-income status families. Over 93% of them qualify or receive free lunch. They are part of Maritime Magnet school, and they love learning things with hands-on experience.
Although they are in difficult circumstances, but they come to school with positive learning attitudes to succeed as independent learners.
However, due to their dire economic and social conditions, most of my students still struggle in their academic growth. My class loves science and what it curtails. They love to touch, see, and feel what they are learning about, while they absorb the knowledge coming from their experiences. Furthermore, my students love doing their Language Art lessons especially writing assignments. They started their typing program and started publishing their writing pieces using the microsoft word. However, due to the recent breakdown of my printer, their publishing came to an halt. For this reason, this project is to purchase a new printer for my class so that we can continue to publish our work for the public.
My Project
My students really enjoy expressing through different genre writing assignments. As a teacher I promote writing in my class because I understand that writing is a "pivotal form of communication in all walks of life." Likewise, it enhances their critical thinking skills and my students will definitely need the skill for college and beyond.
Recently, they started publishing their masterpieces using the printer that I had for five years and interestingly this process increased their motivation to write more.
They would share with classmates and inspire each other. To continue the momentum, I even invited parents to listen to their child's publications. Finally, I posted their masterpieces for others to see so that they can be inspired as well. Unfortunately, my five years old printer broke down in the middle of printing my students' published works. My students were very sad and distraught about the printer. For this reason, I am asking for your support to purchase a new printer for my class so that my students can continue to publish and print their writing masterpieces in their own classroom.
