My students come to our school because, often, the public schools in our area have failed to meet their needs. We are a school with a large population of low-income students and have very few funds to invest in our classrooms. This is why I have come to DonorsChoose for help.
Many of my students are on IEPs and 504s that allow them to have accommodations in the classroom that I cannot currently provide.
My students have many different learning styles and I believe the bouncy seats, chair bands, and headphones will help to make my classroom more inclusive and meet the sensory needs of all of my students.
I teach 7th- grade ELA and each block is 80 minutes long with no break. This is a very long time for my students to sit without movement. These items will help those students who need to wriggle and bounce to stay focused.
I am asking for a class set of headphones to use with the Actively Learn curriculum we use in class. Currently, my students are unable to use the read-to-me feature of the program. These headphones will help with differentiation in my classroom and make reading more accessible for the 52% of my students who are below grade level in reading comprehension.
