Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Wreath It To Us is a volunteer-run initiative bringing joy to our community, by collecting holiday wreaths from a network of creative and dedicated volunteers and donating them to individuals and families that have been impacted by illness or hardship. We also bring them to our senior citizens within our town to help decorate their front doors.
Decorating for the holidays can take time, energy, and other resources that may not be readily available for those facing illness or hardship.
The organization Wreath It To Us provides a safe, easy way to participate in this holiday tradition. Last year, our students designed and fabricated 10 wreaths for the organization and this year our goal is 25.
This project is for the evergreen wreath bases to use in the creation of these wreaths. Bringing a wreath to someone's home who is being impacted by illness, loss, or another hardship helps them feel as if the community around them is giving them a big holiday hug. They can keep this wreath and use it in future years. Spreading kindness and wellness through wreaths is such a small thing but it has such a positive impact. Donating your time and energy to help others helps to create a positive mental health environment for both parties. In future years, in this holiday wreath, they may remember the loved one who passed away or just that there was a group of students who thought about them and made them this homemade gift.
We have been getting local families to donate the decorations and we will be hosting a wreath-making night for all families to participate.
