My Students
My students are amazing and I want to help them become more amazing! I teach third grade grade at a year round school that has the largest population in our district. With such a high population, we have large boundaries which means that we have a mix of income levels in our classrooms and a wide variety of ability levels.
I love to work with my students in small groups so I can better meet their different needs!
However, I need manipulatives and resources to keep my other students engaged while I do this, not just doing busy work.
My Project
One of the most important math concepts in third grade is multiplication.
If you are able to master your multiplication facts in third grade, then math is that much easier in the later grades as well.
Having to use strategies like drawing a picture or working out simple multiplication problems leads to students struggling in math in later grades when multiplication is no longer the main focus but only the first step of a multiple step process. This is why we put so much emphasis on mastering multiplication facts in third grade.
Having a class set of wrap-ups will give them an engaging hands-on way to practice their facts everyday.
