This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books will wrap up our first year of our Book of the Month initiative. In reading these final book selections, our students will continue to make text-to-self connections, as well as to have deep conversations about their wishes for the future. By having one book title across the school each month, we can have shared conversations reflecting on the school year as well as our wishes for the school years to come. We hope these books continue to open doors in students sharing about their various cultures and backgrounds, as well as to inspire our students to have the future they dream of through discussions that plant seeds of inspiration. Every book that is part of our Book of the Month initiative is read aloud on our school website by a staff reader, in both English and Spanish, for our families to read at home. All of these books are also available for our students in the classroom to read over and over again. The activities that the teachers do with the students related to the book have ranged from arts and crafts to supporting their reading comprehension skills through writing. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading.
