My students need fun, engaging books as I help to support their reading skills! Also, our dyslexic students would love to read some books that address their needs as readers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Hurricane Harvey flood wiped out our school library and all of our technology. Books and technology are how our students get to experience adventure, travel, mystery & drama! With most of our students qualifying for free lunch, not many get a chance to truly venture out past their own neighborhood in Houston, Texas. My students need books, resources and furniture to get back to building their future!
Because of the damage from Hurricane Harvey floodwaters, we are still trying to recover our library and teaching resources!
We need to get our students back into reading and learning! Each year, our district holds a reading contest called Name That Book. In order to participate in this amazing contest, our library needs to have multiple copies of the designated books so that the 30 chosen books will get to circulate among all of the contestants. I serve as a Library/Dyslexia ancillary teacher, so I get to interact with all students on our campus across all grade levels that read for this contest!
My Project
These materials will greatly enhance my students' reading skills! This year I'll be helping new readers learn their high-frequency words, struggling readers who need extra decoding support and dyslexic students. The greater variety of books that we have, the more excitement we see generated in our students. We are also needing a few more teacher resource books to help in planning with our dyslexic students
These books will also help add to our growing collection of library books available for checkout to all students of our school!
The books in this project are new titles for our library and the students' faces truly light up when they are exposed to new and exciting books!
