My students need models of the human neck, spinal cord, and blood cell along with slide sets to view and touch anatomical parts in a way not before available to them.
Imagine trying to learn parts of the human body when you can only see them in two-dimensional drawings and not in full three-dimensional models. Try to imagine students going off to college (trade, technical, or 4-year) having never seen, held or studied a quality anatomical model.
We have a lot of interest in Allied Health fields in our school and we have put in anatomy and physiology as a senior level elective.
We are a independent school district in Central Texas. Most of my kids come from agriculture based backgrounds. Most of my students come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds and my annual budget is less than $700 for anatomy. We have a very large Hispanic population in our community and school system.
My Project
My students need models of the human neck, spinal cord, and blood cell along with slide sets to view and touch anatomical parts in a way not before available to them. These models will allow my students the same opportunities to access quality hands-on learning as more affluent districts. With these models, they will have the same methods of learning and exploration that will be required to get a degree in an Allied Health field.
Because of the advanced nature of this course, my students continually return to tell me how our Anatomy class fully prepared them for their college level class and how we use the same materials, models and methods they used in college and that they are so glad they took Anatomy at our high school. With your continued help and support, future students will use these models and slides to keep our kids on even ground with their college peers in preparation for their lifelong careers.
These models will be used my a multitude of students throughout the life of the models.
They are resources that once funded will be able to be used year in and year out by all the students that may take this class
