My students need an overhead projector and a replacement bulb.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. M.'s classroom raised $280
This project is fully funded
I am a second-year teacher and am thrilled to be starting my first year of teaching Kindergarten in August. Our school is located in an economically-challenged, historically under-resourced area of the city of Chicago. Due to budget cuts and funding constraints, there is a limit to what the school can provide.
A piece of equipment that is almost becoming standard as technology improves in the teaching world is an overhead projector.
Overhead projectors can be used in a wide variety of ways, all across the learning areas. There are new math manipulatives made specifically for overheads, like pattern blocks and fraction pieces. We can write a story together as children watch the writing process modeled for them on the overhead. It can even double as a microscope for science explorations!
Not only do I anticipate using the projector to enrich and expand my teaching, I plan on creating an “overhead center” for the students to use during center time. I already know this will be one of the most popular centers … I’m picturing the students eyes wide with awe as they place the letters “c-a-t” on the overhead and watch the word “cat” appear larger than life.
Gone will be the days of “I can’t see” as our learning materials will be projected on a screen so everyone has a chance to see without straining or moving spots. Less time spent on managing bodies and more time spent on teaching! An added bonus of an overhead projector is that it’s “green”! We will eliminate paper waste since every child will not need a paper copy sitting in front of them. It’s also incredibly helpful, as we do not have a complete class set of our beginning readers.
Due to community challenges, my students do not have experience with technology equipment that many of us consider "standard". Your donation will make it possible to expose these children to technology right from the beginning. An overhead will be a invaluable tool in preparing these children for success in today’s technology-driven world. Let's even the playing field!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
