Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Look all around and see what you can see, I see you, what do you see? When we, as adults, look around us, we see many things that children may not pay attention to, unless someone takes the time to open their eyes to all the wonderful, beautiful sights all around us. The world is moving art!
My students are 4 and 5 year old, pre-k children, who are just being introduced to formal learning.
They are from lower income families and all qualify for free or reduced lunch. We are part of an elementary school where the majority of the students also qualify for free or reduced lunch. My 18 students are all ELL, English Language Learners.
My Project
My students need to be exposed to everything possible in order to set them on a life-long journey of learning. They have seen many books, but need to learn the difference between an illustration and a photograph. They need to be exposed to art from every way imaginable, and learn to see all the beauty that the world has to offer. Through art education they can learn colors, letters, numbers, how to identify feeling and emotions, and a variety of necessary vocabulary words. Through taking their own photos and sharing them with their classmates, friends, and families they will be able to use newly learned words to express complete thoughts, and they will feel the pride of creating their own art. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and they need to see and experience all the beauty in the world within which they live.
Think about the last time you took a picture of your child, or went back to watch a family video when your children were all grown up, or just a few years older.
You had a chance to feel pride over what you created, and to remember emotions you felt, and experience a new art form. Through your donations, my students will create new works of art, review and share their art, and experience the world around them from a new prospective, as the photographer, or videographer.
