My Students

We have two classes of 48 first graders that are very active and intuitive. They work so well together creating projects that answer community and social problems. Nothing is impossible so their ideas continually surprise us. They have amazing insight into how things can work and what others in the community need. They have recently completed a book access project in our school. Our curriculum allows the students to discover and interact with problems or concerns in their own neighborhood. Part of this project was donating their own books so others could enjoy them with no charge. Our school community consists of children from both economic and cultural diversity and who share core values.

Our boys and girls, are engaged in helping both people and animals in order to make their world a better place to live.

In a few weeks, they will be completing a sea turtle project by writing persuasion letters to families not to use plastic bags.

Our students live and and play within their community. They are learning the value of positive change having a benefit to all. They are working to become leaders and show this through their ideas and actions right in the classroom.

My Project

We are an amazing class of lucky first graders with an awesome new curriculum that focuses on local and global issues.

Students experience real-world projects, problems, and solutions hands-on.

Students work through multiple steps to arrive at a product which answers big ideas such as: Building Strong Communities, Animals Surviving and Thriving, and Resources in our Communities. They provide critical thinking responses and feedback to improve each other’s work. To accomplish this, students have immediate access to pictures of their work throughout the day.

Our black and white printer doesn’t provide depth and value of their creations nor does it show details of the piece or structure they have built. By having a color printer in the classroom, the pictures they take will immediately support growth and learning through explanation and opportunities to receive specific feedback from peers. This allows students to grow and stretch their thinking by making timely modifications. A color printer also gives students opportunity to view images clearly when trying to depict details. Imagine their joy when classmates experience a creation through their eyes!
