Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in an urban school. Our school's mission is to engage, encourage and support our wonderful students. We are on a mission help our students become 21 century learners. It is our goal that all our first graders will have new exciting experiences this school year. Most of our students come from single family homes in a high needs community. We feel that it is our responsibility to give them as many new experiences as possible.

As most people know our nation is in a crisis. Money is not available. Our schools are working hard to keep the basic needs supplied. There is no extra money for hands on resources. This is where you come in. You can fund this proposal and supply my students with hours of hands on learning.

Students in first grade are learning about what it takes for living things to thrive and we are big on recycling. So we can teach this concept with the worm factory. Students will see what it takes to help the worms thrive, and at the same time we will be recycling food. Because our school is an International School, we teach our students about being responsible citizens of this world. This starts with how we can reuse and recycle items such as food. The worm factory will recycle 5-8 pounds of food each week. The worms will give off a liquid that will enrich soil. We will be able to show the students how recycling their uneaten lunch will sustain the worm, the worms will give off a liquid that will help enrich soil and we will use the liquid to make our plants grow better.

I ask that you consider funding this proposal. It will be hours of learning for all of my students. The life lessons learned through this resource will be endless. Our students will never see a resource like this. You will play a great part in our learning process for years to come.
