When the box arrived, the excitement in the classroom was immediate and contagious. Smiles lit up faces, eyes widened, and students could hardly wait to see what was inside. For many of my students, this was more than just a gift, it was a moment of joy, ownership, and feeling truly seen and valued. Thanks to donors like you, learning felt magical. This project had a meaningful impact on my students' learning by increasing motivation and engagement in literacy. Reading is foundational, yet many students struggle with confidence or interest. The Book Buddies helped bridge that gap by making reading feel fun and personal.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, students are introduced to foundational literacy skills such as phonics, decoding, and word recognition, which help them understand how letters and sounds work together to form words. As students grow more confident, the books support fluency, allowing them to practice reading smoothly, accurately, and with expression. We also focus on vocabulary development, using new words from the texts to build language, comprehension, and speaking skills. The Book Buddies also supported social-emotional learning by teaching empathy, responsibility, and care. Students treated their buddies with kindness, practiced sharing, and learned the importance of taking care of something special.\r\n\r\nThe timing of this project made it even more impactful. Receiving the Book Buddies as a Christmas gift created a memory that my students will carry with them long after the holiday season. Many of my students come from backgrounds where extra gifts or classroom resources are not always guaranteed. This project reminded them that people beyond our classroom believe in them, care about their education, and want them to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1763949305578,"projectUrl":"project/christmas-book-buddies/9921348/","projectTitle":"Christmas Book Buddies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8966623_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1688181815066","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss1robinson"},{"teacherId":8966623,"projectId":9399442,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students have been able to start the school year with all the fresh school supplies they need to succeed. The moment they saw the new folders, pencils, writing tablets and more, their faces lit up with excitement. It was such a special sight to see them eager to dive into their work, knowing they each had the tools they needed. These supplies have already made a difference in the classroom, supporting creativity, organization, and engagement in every lesson.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new supplies every day in our learning activities. Students are creating art projects, writing stories, and participating in small group activities with confidence because they have everything they need. it was inspiring to see them so motivated.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support learning across the curriculum. My students will use them in reading centers, math activities, and collaborative projects, helping them stay organized and engaged while building important skills. Your support has given my students an equal start to the school year and provided a boost to their confidence and excitement for learning. The program has allowed my students to engage with phonics in a fun and interactive way, using stories and visuals to understand how letters and sounds work together. One project we will be doing this spring is to create \"Secret Story\" books where each student will illustrate a story that represents a sound or letter pattern we had learned. My students will love this it will help to solidify their understanding of phonics patterns. When the students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement. The colorful characters and catchy rhymes immediately caught their attention, and they were eager to start learning the \"secrets\" of the letters. It was a moment of joy in the classroom, as they realized how much fun learning phonics could be.\r\n\r\nThanks to the generous contributions of our donors, we now have access to these incredible resources that have transformed our classroom environment. The students are more engaged than ever, and it has sparked a love for reading that wasn't as present before. The next steps for my students involve continuing to practice blending and segmenting words using the Secret Stories techniques. They'll be working on applying these skills in more complex word lists and in their independent reading. I'm also planning to integrate the program more into our writing activities, encouraging the students to use the phonics patterns they've learned to spell and write words confidently. It's been a journey of growth for both me and my students, and I'm excited to see how they continue to develop their literacy skills.","fullyFundedDate":1733285772468,"projectUrl":"project/shhits-a-secret-lets-crack-the-co/8977689/","projectTitle":"Shh...It's a Secret.
