"A child that carries a book with a bookmark in it is in two places at the same time."-Tony Abbott. My classroom is made up of 21 fun-loving, curious, and enthusiastic students that each come from very different home lives.
One thing they all have in common is their want and need for adventure from where ever they can find it.
I teach in a Title 1 school where funds are limited and resources are either outdated or hard to come by. Despite the socioeconomic status of many of my students, they come in ready to learn every day, excited about what will happen in our classroom. Making learning fun and engaging is what each of these students look forward to everyday.
My students need exciting books to read during our English-Language Arts block. These books are highly sought after in my classroom, but the library does not give enough copies to satisfy my students' thirst to read them. Having multiple copies of these books will allow my students to also participate in literature circles, where they will read together and have meaningful discussions about the books and the concepts within.
Books that interest students, engage their thinking, and allow for collaboration are golden within the classroom.
These books not only pique my students' interest, but also can be used to teach meaningful skills in the classroom; diversity, kindness, cause and effect, and tolerance are just a few that come from this selection of books. All of these skills will be touched upon with these titles, as well as skills like reading comprehension, grammar, and using vivid words.
These books will be used daily in my classroom to promote successful reading in real-life situations; they will be more than just stories to my students.
