When my students walk into my classroom, the first thing they learn is that they are now officially OWLS. Yes, from day one, that is what they are in our classroom! They take this very much to heart. It puts them ALL at the same academic level.
My classroom is a place of community, which is the most important thing I teach them all school year.
This hopefully leads to our becoming a family. That is important, because our students are diverse. They have different types of backgrounds with many different stories to tell, especially since my school is considered at a low income level. This however does not change their eagerness to explore new things, learn new things, and grow!
My Project
With the generosity of the donors on the first part of this Donors Choose project, my extremely excited class now has the technology of a 3D printer that they are very excited to use.
However, in order to accomplish this, we need something very important in order to print.
We need filament! Without filament, we cannot create a "world of wonder in 3D."
The ideas are flowing and and we have even thought of ideas to connect it to our reading. They want to create the character Roz from the story we are reading called "The Wild Robot." They would also like to create something with our school mascot, the bobcat. This leads to even more learning because we can research information and learn about our school mascot.
I just love the creative thinking that is taking place in my classroom because of this one item I was able to bring to my students. Now in order to complete their thinking, we just need the filament.
