I am a teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district where my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience.
My music room is full of awesome and hardworking students.
They come from very diverse backgrounds and financial needs. We are proud of these differences and the students enjoy learning from each other.
My Project
I am teaching a new general music class to allow more students to experience the benefits of a music education. I am using the amazing World Music Drumming curriculum to reach my students.
The requested xylophones are essential to experiencing the full curriculum, allowing my students to actively experience and create music, rather than just listen to it and complete worksheets.
But, this World Music Drumming curriculum teaches a lot more than hitting a drum. It emphasizes character building and the essential qualities of teamwork. The curriculum also teaches the history and culture of some West African countries and the Caribbean.
