My Project
Spanish instruction is a new curriculum area at our Academy. As a pilot year, resources were limited and relied on a lot of creativity and reflection. The program was greatly welcomed by students, staff, and families. Students in grades K-3 get weekly instruction, 4-6 have class two times a week, and middle school students receive daily instruction.
As we move into continuing to develop the program we are in need of books and engaging materials, especially within the Montessori philosophy of discovering our world through manipulation and exploration. The request is for books to introduce new topics and common vocabulary, inspiring discussion amongst peers and connections with concepts being learned in the studios. Engaging interactive games and learning tools will only solidify knowledge.
Our Academy strives for all students to flourish in a non-traditional public school setting through Montessori, nature-based, and world community pillars. Not knowing what the year would bring, I am amazed on a daily basis with all students being able to communicate in Spanish through speaking, reading, and writing. I am thrilled that the program will continue, allowing access to a content area not typically available to students at the elementary level.
