My students need a donation to reduce costs for student ticket prices so that they might see a high-quality theatrical production at an award-winning theater in Philadelphia.

My Students
My students attend a large, comprehensive urban magnet school in Philadelphia with over 2000 students. Coming from all neighborhoods, the students represent the vibrancy and diversity of Philadelphia; each class I teach is comprised of students from at least ten different racial, ethnic, or national origin groups.
Although my students are talented, they are not privileged and struggle to afford the extra-curricular events, like field trips or new literature, that enhance the educational experience.
The students crave the opportunities to view cultural events and to visualize literature being made real.
My Project
By attending the production of "The Bluest Eye", produced by The Arden Theater, my students will have the opportunity to witness a high-quality theatrical adaptation of the legendary Toni Morrison's prize-winning novel. Although classroom discussion and literary analysis allow for the students to gain meaning from the text, viewing a theatrical production of the work will enhance the students' understanding.
Attending live quality theater provides a transformative event that unlocks the power of literature to narrate and illustrate the challenging events of our lives, which create the fodder for telling the stories of the human experience.
This experience will be memorable for my students.
