Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Flexible seating is a great classroom resource. While we all know the difficulties of sitting in a standard desk chair all day working as the norm, most of my students are finding it too difficult. When we were in a virtual learning stage, students found creative ways to sit while attending class virtually. Now in in-person learning, students are having an extremely difficult time staying put at one hard confining 25-year-old desk to learn.

As teenagers, it is unnatural for students to sit still in the same spot (a standard desk) for hours at a time as they are being asked to.

I want to encourage movement and comfort in my classroom so that each student can find their best learning style.

The table will be an amazing resource to keep students in their seats, doing their work while wiggling, moving, and yet remaining seated. The table also offers my students some much-needed extra space. Our current standard desks are more than 25 years old, very restricting, small, and falling apart with duct tape holding them together.

In the last couple of years, I've written several DC projects asking for flexible chairs and tables. Luckily some have been funded. This Lakeshore table would be for the Lakeshore flexible wobble chairs which were recently funded. Giving students the opportunity to move a little will help them focus on the academic task at hand and be successful during these trying times. The table will optimize our classroom learning as the ones I do have, have proven.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and support of public school children. When you care about students, you support equity, making our future better.
