My classroom is a hub for diversity, from student's who have a military connection and have lived in a variety of places, to those with a more poverty type background, who may have never left the county. This is a multi-age classroom which includes a group of Kindergartners and First graders.
And regardless of their background, each student comes in ready to learn!
They are amazing thinkers and risk-takers, coaches to each other, and learners.....and giving them opportunities to be all of the above, is my job....They are amazing!
My Project
With so much testing going on in today's schools, my students need more hands-on exploration! I want them to be able to build, manipulate, and explore with a variety of materials!
Creativity is the key to learning!
Worksheets are out the door!
Students will be able to use their imagination, be creative, and explore while building their fine motor skills! Using these materials will spark a new way of learning, allowing for more critical thinking.
The following directions building sets will allow students to independently use materials to problem-solve and make decisions. These types of activities will sharpen cognitive skills that are so important to a child's development.
Sensory play encourages children to use descriptive and expressive language. Giving students the play materials to develop language skills will boost their confidence in decision making and inspire their eagerness to learn and experiment. Each play material will be used in conjunction with classroom literacy and math activities to make learning more exciting and challenging!
Lacing cards and tweezers provide fine motor skills practice that lead into better control when writing, as well as better eye-hand coordination. These activities will be used in a variety of ways such as in math activities (counting, one-to-one correspondence, etc.) and literacy activities.
Sensory exploration is a child's way of examining, discovering, categorizing and making sense of the world---worksheets don't lend themselves to this same degree of learning!
