Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of 23 wonderful 3rd graders. They are funny, inquisitive, and enthusiastic about learning. They love reading, math, science and social studies. They get excited about the funniest things. They love using the Smartboard to watch educational videos and play some math games.
We are a Title I school, and resources are limited.
Many of my kids come from lower income families and would benefit from this addition resources. They have very little access to computers to practice their skills, and this program would go a long way to fixing that.
My Project
I am a firm believer that learning should be fun and engaging. Nobody like doing worksheets day in and day out. I would love for the kids to do interactive educational activities on BrainPOP. Information is more effectively processed when presented in words, pictures, and sound than when presented in words alone. BrainPOP is a website that engages students in all subject matter through the use videos, games, fun quizzes, and so much more.
A study was done of the effectiveness of BrainPOP.
Kids finished the year with scores that were higher in Reading Comprehension, Science, Language, and Vocabulary on the SAT 10 assessments. BrainPOP was found to be equally effective for boys and girls; students of different ethnicities; and both students receiving free or reduced lunch services and those who do not.
