My Students
My school services a diverse population of students that includes 60% of English Language Learners. The kindergarten students that I work with come from a variety of social backgrounds that can often times present social-emotional challenges in and out of the classroom. As their teacher, I want to provide enriching learning opportunities that help build academic and social skills. These young students are eager to learn and assimilate in the world of education and they look forward to coming to school every day!
My Project
With the growing demands of Common Core, Standards-Based Instruction Kindergarten has now turned into the new 1st grade. With that being said it is important to provide these young learners with ample opportunity to develop their fine motor skills while maintaining academically rigorous Common Core aligned instruction.
A worksheet free learning opportunity is essential for student engagement and social-emotional growth for primary learners.
Through hands-on fine motor skill activities, I can incorporate social skills, language development, beginning reading and writing skills all while the students are engaged and having fun!
It is my goal to keep worksheets to a bare minimum and only use them for handwriting development and essential writing instruction. Additionally, the fewer worksheets I am running off the more trees we can keep alive in our forever changing climate!
