My students need to fidget while at their seats. This will allow the students to "move" while working. Not only is this beneficial to students with ADHD but any student with the wiggles.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I started my teaching career in an urban school. When people would find out that my school was placed in the center of a housing development for low-income families, they asked if I felt unsafe. I can honestly say that I actually felt the opposite way. I always felt like the parents valued what we did for their students, and they respected us. When we would hold events, the community would participate because they could walk.
Unfortunately, my school was closed, and the students were moved to a new location along with the teachers.
The new location is 20 minutes away from the old school. The students have a long bus ride, and the parents have a difficult time getting to school due to limited transportation. It was heart breaking to leave our old school behind, but kids are resilient and adjusted well to their new environment.
The population in our new school is very diverse. There are very wealthy students, and there are students with very little. What is amazing about my new school is that the students are kind to each other and don't seem concerned who has money and who doesn't.
My Project
Pedaling while learning sounds fun to me- how about you? I believe that these bike desks will benefit any student using them to move while being seated. I had a student last year that had a hard time staying in his seat. He explained it as a constant need to move. I know he isn't alone with this feeling. It is difficult for students to sit all day. This idea will allow my students to workout the wiggles while being productive.
My goal is for all kids to be successful in the classroom.
I think some need to have extra mobility, and this will allow them to be able to learn while moving. I am excited to see the benefits of this idea.
