Working While You Wobble

My Students

I work in a Title I school with a large population of students who struggle with poverty. My students range from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. In the community I work in, there is a large population of Native American students. I thoroughly enjoy the mix of cultures and strive to promote cultural diversity in my classroom.

Besides coming from a wide variety of backgrounds, my students all differ in their academic abilities.

I try to make sure that my teaching style meets all of their needs, but finding resources to meet all their needs can be difficult.

My Project

I have introduced flexible seating in my classroom. This allows students to exercise and move while they work. The materials we are currently using are limited and my students are requesting more. With Wobble Stools hyperactive students or students with special needs are given the opportunity to move while they work and stay engaged in the curriculum they are working on. This type of seating will provide an outlet for restlessness and extra energy. Students can be active while seated.

Research shows that giving students choices is beneficial to their learning.

My students feel when they are comfortable while working they are more likely to work to their full potential. With the Wobble Stools I am offering students the opportunity to choose the seating that best fits their learning style. Through this project, I hope to better meet my students' learning styles while creating an environment where they can be active while learning.
