My Students

I teach in rural Alaska where my students have many opportunities to immerse themselves in their culture. They love drumming, dancing, hunting, fishing, gathering, and speaking for their culture.

My students are the reason I stay in rural Alaska.

They work very hard to broaden their horizons and take all the opportunities they can to learn about the world. 100% of our students get free lunch, but they don't let that label them. A lot of our materials are very old, and our students do what they can with them. Because English is their second language, working in collaborative groups is very beneficial for their learning.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially for math. The whiteboard tables allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work before they put the work on their homework or an answer in the computer. The chairs will allow them to get away from uncomfortable desk/chair combos that are older than the students.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student comfort, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether they're comfortable or not.
