My Students
Our classroom is comprised of 30 students who come from diverse backgrounds with varying learning styles and abilities. Throughout the day I lead my class in movement breaks. Moving with purpose helps to boost productivity, improve behavior, and build community. However, whole-group and small-group movement breaks aren’t always enough to keep some energetic third graders focused and engaged.
My goal is to create a classroom with flexible seating that is student-centered.
Flexible seating gives students a choice to find the kind of learning space that works best for them. This will help to create a welcoming classroom environment that supports all learners
My Project
Sitting in a stationary chair can be difficult for some learners. Hokki stools let students wiggle around in their own space without distracting or invading the space of those around them. Hokki stools are an ergonomic, lightweight, and safe alternative to stationary seating. Hokki stools will allow for flexible seating in our classroom.
Being able to move while sitting down helps a child who can’t normally sit still use up excess energy and leads to increased motivation and engagement.
Hokki stools would be a great addition to our third grade classroom! My ultimate goal would be to have a stool for each student in my class. The funding of this proposal is the first step in that direction.
