My Project
Students in our classroom have autism. We have the district's youngest learners who can start on their third birthday. For many of them, this is their first exposure to the classroom environment. We try to make this setting as natural as possible so they can learn in a fun and engaging way. The two-seater bike will help students at recess learn how to work together. With some students having gross motor deficits, this trike will allow them to participate with their peers and enjoy a shared experience outside. In addition to the trike, we have requested some boards to help with fine motor engagement. These boards are visually appealing and provide sensory input to our students as they trace and write. This is often a child's first writing experience, so providing multiple modes of expression is vital to our classroom success. Finally, we have asked for additional books for our
classroom to support themes and content.
Books support language acquisition as well as content knowledge. It is important that students have a variety of books available to them as they begin their journey as lifelong learners.
