My Students

Maria Montessori said, "There is in a child a special kind of sensitivity which leads him to absorb everything about him. It is this work of observing and absorbing that alone enables him to adapt himself to life." It is our job to provide rich experiences for our children to absorb every day.

Our beautiful gem in the middle of the city is a public school Montessori option program.

Our building may be old and worn, but our staff is steadfast and first-class! We serve mainly low-income families and have a large population of students who are just learning English. Their experiences outside our neighborhood are few, so we work hard to bring the outside world to them as much as possible in every way, shape, and form we can dream up! With a cultural studies emphasis and hands-on materials approach, the Montessori program is perfect for these children. They grow and thrive with us. Their curiosity and love of learning keep us striving to find new ways to engage them. Our school serves children from preschool through eighth grade.

My Project

My students enjoy writing! They have good thoughts and are fairly adept at putting thoughts into words. They like to read what they have written and share with others. One area that needs a lot of work though is expanding their vocabulary. Using interesting and more descriptive words will enhance their writing, making it clearer and more enjoyable to the reader.

By using these wonderful vocabulary aids and directly working towards increasing our vocabulary, we will be able to read and write more effectively.

As part of our Montessori work plan, we can incorporate using these vocabulary builders in our daily work. Then we can extend and hone our skills by using our new vocabulary knowledge in our reading and writing. Thank you so much for considering this important project!
