My Students

I am an elementary school counselor in a small downtown neighborhood school. We have 300 students and many of those students are low income, we have over 65% who receive free and reduced lunch based on income. We also have a homeless shelter nearby and some of our students are coming to school from that shelter each day. We have approximately 300 students kindergarten through 5th grade.

We strive to find the right support each student's needs whether it be specialized academic interventions or creating a trauma informed environment.

Our counseling team collaborates with all staff to identify and provide the best tools for student success.

My Project

Thank you for considering this project! With these fun tools, our k-5 students will build their emotion vocabulary and identify healthy ways to express emotions in individual, small and whole group settings. These tools will provide students a way to name and process emotions as well as express past traumas and begin to put words with the strong emotions that can impact their ability to experience the best education possible. Our counseling program will have hands on opportunities to encourage students to talk about their emotions in a fun and creative way. This will mean so much to our littles!
