My Students

I teach in a Title I school where over 85% of our students qualify for free or reduced rate lunches. Our students come from very diverse backgrounds, where many of them have access to a limited amount of resources and opportunities for enrichment in their lives. Children should be given an opportunity to learn and grow despite the hardships they may face outside of school.

Our students deserve a chance to be given headphones so they can access electronic learning games and books and take mandated tests that are given on computers.

I have seen an increase in the number of students who walk through the door unequipped with the tools to be ready to learn. We feed all our students breakfast and lunch so they have the physical ability to learn, but they deserve hands-on materials in the classroom too. I want to be able to give these students the chance to be successful as learners by giving them a very fundamental tool . . . headphones!

My Project

By purchasing headphones, students will be able to successfully use our school Chromebooks for learning games and reading books during station rotations in our classroom. They will also be able to take state tests that are taken on electronic devices.

Students in our current day are required to use electronic devices but aren't given the tools to use them successfully.

By funding the purchase of a classroom set of headphones, all students can access the resources they need in order to be successful in the classroom. I would like to stop making trips to the dollar store to purchase headphones that break too easily!
