I teach 2- 6th grade Math classes every day. Everyday, my students beg to solve math problems on the white boards. SO probably 2-3 days a week, I give in to their wishes. Solving problems on the white boards, allows me to spot check to see what students are achieving mastery on the problems and which students are not. I am able to give immediate feedback and help right then and there correct their mistakes.
After we solve at least 5-6 problems, I will give them 2 or 3 more challenging problems that if they get it correct, they get a jolly rancher.
Unfortunately, they are killing me with how fast they are going through dry erase markers. They think this is a game, where I know they are learning and thinking, and helping each other so they too will earn candy. It really is a remarkable event.
I push them hard with reading and math then they go to lunch. The last thing they want to do is more work. It would be so great for them to create pillows., sew holes, or do anything else that an electronic device was not included. This is why I would like to expand my needs on school supplies to include materials to create.
