Working For a Living: Learning About Financial Literacy
Help me give my students cleaning supplies like a Bissell Floor Sweeper so they can earn class money to purchase holiday gifts for their families like ornaments and gift bags.
We are the Bucket Fillers! This means we fill the "buckets" of everyone we are in contact with each and every day. We are kind to all! We spend our days learning and growing together. Each day is an exciting adventure. We are amazing! We are the only STEM-focused elementary school in the area with a specific focus on engineering.
This donation will help provide my students with the materials to help them grow.
Our school in Green Bay has over 400 students. We are not a Title I funded school so we do not receive many of the resources that other schools may have. I have 20 students that are eager to learn each day. I have a strong commitment to excellence and a great parent network to help my students reach their goals. I teach my students to have a strong growth mindset to help them get through any struggles and successes in life. I love coming to school each day to teach them!
My Project
Every year, I teach a unit on financial literacy with my students. I love to make this unit as realistic as possible so they will really understand how people earn, save, and spend their money.
This project will provide materials for my students to use as they do jobs around the school and classroom to earn classroom dollars that they will use to purchase gifts for their families.
For example, they will use the floor sweeper and brooms to keep our floors clean. They will use the gloves and wipes to clean our tables and counters. They will also ask other teachers if they would like their room cleaned. When they do these job, they will earn class dollars. These dollars will be used to purchase items in our store. The items in the store will be candy, gift bags that they can decorate for family gifts, and items to make bracelets and ornaments for gifts. It will be the perfect time with the holiday season right around the corner. They will be encouraged to use the money they earned to buy items for others.
This project definitely provides students with the opportunity to earn, spend and save money.
